Reflection: Backwards Planning Impact of the Early Explorers - Section 1: Creating the Purpose

I realized that while the sharing part is a great way to get students to connect with the topic, it can also easily get students and you off topic. If they get involved in their sharing and go over the time limit then it is more difficult to get them back to the objective. The objective is just to get them connecting with the adventure and reasons for traveling and beginning to open their thoughts to why the explorers would want to go.

My suggestion is to set a timer for the discussions (I use 5 min) so that they have time to share but can be brought back to the lesson focus in time for you to compete the lesson cycle.
