Reflection: Parent Communication Sheldon the Sharing Sheep - Section 1: Hook


This has been rewarding for me to see the joy that it brings to my students as they share their stories, hence Sheldon the Sharing Sheep.  Parents are offered the opportunity to work with their children and learn what their student is working on in class.  This activity also encourages parents and children to read together.  

The challenge with choosing a white stuffed animal is that he does not stay white for long.  Also, when the animal goes from household to household there are other factors to watch out for—smoke, dirt, lice.  Before sending the stuffed animal on to the next home, check to be sure it is in good condition.  It is important to let the children know that sometimes Sheldon has to have a day off to see his own family, so that you can clean him up for the next go round.  I purchased two of the same sheep so that I could keep the cycle going while cleaning up the other animal.

Objective: SWBAT Use a combination of drawing, dictating and writing to compose a personal narrative that contains one or more events. SWBAT describe familiar people, places, things, and events and, with prompting and support, provide additional detail. Student Objective: I can share Sheldon with my family and then write a story about Sheldon’s visit to my home.
