Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Open Number Lines - Just the Basics - Section 2: Direct Instruction

In the field of education, we've moved away from the "sage on the stage" model of lecturing, and I think that's a very positive trend.

In doing so, I think it's important that we don't swing so far to the other extreme that there's no direct instruction at all.  There are times when it's beneficial for students to look and listen for a short period of time before they begin to join us with the modeling. I know I certainly am a learner that benefits from a little bit of quiet think time before I'm asked to engage!
