Reflection: Rigor Shopping for a Pound! - Section 4: Guided Practice


To increase the rigor of this lesson, I could have provided students with another product/scenario to practice independently on their own at their desks. Instead of allowing students to Turn & Talk, during this time, I could have asked students to raise their hands when ready to be corrected. One of the most powerful and rigorous learning opportunities in a classroom is when a teacher says, "You're doing great, but you're not quite there! Keep Trying!" This can be frustrating for kids, but I try to take a very positive approach. Students need opportunities to grapple with problems and to develop perseverance (Math Practice 1).
