Reflection: Conferencing Using Games to practice multi-digit multiplication - Section 2: Concept Development


As seen in my reflection video, this was a great opportunity for me to observe students strategies and thinking.  For those students that have misconceptions, this lesson allowed for individualized attention, which can be challenging.  Students were very engaged in this lesson and motivated to play, which in turn meant they were practicing a skill that is important to master to proficiency.  Students were also able to use Math Practice Standard 3 in communicating their ideas and engaging in active mathematical discourse. Many students were explaining and discussing their thinking processes aloud which.

Unit 2: Multiplication with Whole Numbers

Objective: SWBAT demonstrate an understanding of place value for multi-digit whole numbers and an understanding of solving multi-digit multiplication problems.

Big Idea: Students will create factors to make the largest product and explain their reasoning to deepen their understanding about place value and multiplication.
