Reflection: ELL Students The Search for Text Features - Section 4: Close or Review Lesson

To scaffold the lesson for special needs or ELL students, I run some of the pairs of cards off with matching colored frames. The rest I leave the same color, usually black or gray.

Another trick is to make sure the students who are intimidated by reading get the strip with the text feature and not the strip with the definition.

The Search for Text Features

Unit 24: Sources and Text Features
Lesson 2 of 3

Objective: Students will be able to locate text features within their history book to begin understanding of how these features can help them with learning informational text.

Big Idea: In the search for text features, students can explore their new text books for ways the author shares information. Create your own graphic to help them remember specific text features and how the authors use them to give information.
