Reflection: Rigor In the Library: Biography & Autobiography - Section 3: Did They Get It?

The dialectical journals have been working so well for my students, that I designed a reading log that follows the dialectical journal format.

I think that students will be more accountable for their reading if they actually have to pull a passage from the text, paraphrase it, and then write out why that passage matters.  My plan is to date stamp these each day.  I am lucky because I have 3 periods of literature, and then I see the same students again in the afternoon for English.  I can collect the logs, stamp them during a free moment (ha!) and then return them in the afternoon.  If you decide to try this out, you'll have to find a routine that works for you!

As I have said previously, reading logs are my nemesis.  Every time I think I've invented a newer, better wheel, I go right back to reinventing it!
