Reflection: Routines and Procedures Rain - Section 2: Guided Practice - Simulation


This was a very simple model for the students to use when it comes learning about the water cycle.  I felt that my students did a really great job of sharing the responsibilities with the set up and observing the model. 

One thing that students need to have before they work with any materials is a very concrete explanation and experience with following procedures during science time in the classroom.

I spend a great deal of time at the beginning of the year talking and showing the students the differences between tools and toys. We use those words often in our classroom.

It is extremely important to model for your students how to use tools in the classroom and explain their purpose.

The more time that is spent on expectations and procedures, the more exciting models and simulations your students can engage with throughout the year.
