Reflection: Joy Force: Push or Pull - Section 1: Introduction


This was a difficult lesson to plan at first.  I had a hard time coming up with something that we could do in our classroom that would teach push and pull.

It took some thinking but then I realized when I was at recess duty one morning how much pushing and pulling was being done in that setting.

It's important for students to be able to learn in other settings. So I decided we would take this lesson to the playground. 

For one, it gets them out of the classroom and moving around. And two, it brings them to a setting where they have fun every day. Being on the playground for the lesson was exciting for them. It was an activity that they had personal experience in and they enjoyed talking about it.

I highly recommend that when you are planning lessons, you take in to account how you can make it meaningful and fun for your students.  always consider other places around the building, inside and outside.

Objective: Students learn that a force makes an object move or change direction by pushing or pulling something.

Big Idea: Pushing or pulling makes things move, even on the playground!
