## Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Mystery Bags Game - Section 1: Opening

I really like how this activity surfaces the idea for students that balance has to be maintained in an equation. Too often I see students manipulating equations or "doing the same thing to each side" without really understanding why. I like the build up here to solving equations by maintaining equality. I think it is a powerful image that can really stick with students and help their conceptual understanding of what an equation is.
