## Reflection: High Expectations Ordering Rational Numbers - Section 3: Mini Lesson

This lesson is student centered, where my role is asking questions to guide students to a working strategy.  When I pose questions to the class, it's also an opportunity for me to gauge how well students are understanding the lesson.  I call on students randomly.  Some teachers use popsicle sticks with students' names, but with today's technology there are a few phone apps that can make this task easier.

I believe it's not only important to call on one student to answer a question, but also additional students to discuss whether they agree and why or why not.  This gets more students involved in the discussion and may prompt a healthy debate about the topic.  My students really enjoy voicing and defending their opinions.  I feel that some of the best learning happens during student discussions.
