Reflection: Adjustments to Practice Investigating Properties of the Cell Membrane with Soap Bubbles - Section 4: The Classroom Flow: Wrapping Up


This pilot activity has some great elements to recommend it to teachers:  a strong inquiry component, simple, easily accessible, and highly engaging materials, structured student directions, and short and focused writing prompts.  Now that my students and I have had a successful experience with this protocol, I started thinking about what would make it even more successful next year.  I think that the area I can improve upon is the writing aspect of this lab.  Our CCSS in Writing specifically focus on conclusion statement writing and I"m thinking the natural extension from this activity is to add in a conclusion writing activity after the lab activity and debrief.  My department and I have been working on a generic lab conclusion rubric to support our current student writing standards goals.  It is still in the beginning stage of development and I'd love to hear your thoughts on how to make it more usable and helpful for students and teachers.  I'm looking forward to focusing in on a variety of goals for this great starter activity next  year!
