Reflection: Student Grouping Material Engineers Part 2 - Section 4: Results and Conclusion


My students did not have time to reflect on their participation with their team or how well their team worked as a whole.

Instead the remaining time was used to bring closure to the lab. Teams noted their top materials on the bar graphs. Then we had a class discussion to make sense of the bar graphs.

Most students were engaged with the lab, but there were a few who needed coaxing to participate. I am not sure if it was the the materials, the topic, the group dynamics or the challenge of developing the lab procedures.

I have used team rubrics, class discussions and open ended questions that students address in writing to get an idea of the students' perspective on team dynamics and the lab. The kiddos' reflections are usually very sincere.
