Reflection: Checks for Understanding Extinct, Endangered or Threatened? - Section 5: Expand

When students are able to connect previous learning to present lessons independently, a teacher knows with full confidence that those students have embraced and acknowledged the learning. When our class discussion took this turn and the children were able to independently share those pieces of evidence in their arguments, I knew I had done my job.

I was so excited...beyond excited. I knew my students would be successful in their future learning because they had just demonstrated to me that they could apply higher level thinking and defend their thinking.
