Reflection: Lesson Planning The Muscular System - Section 3: Explore

While it seems to go without saying, I am going to say it... Always have a back up plan and a back up plan for the back up plan. Technology is great, when it works, and the truth is that sometimes it just doesn't. I initially planned to utilize an online game. I created the lesson plan and tested the game at home, only to find that the school's filter blocked the game. Please double check that you can utilize the game at school before you try this lesson.

I modified the lesson to have students search for various muscles on their own, and the outcome was great. The change provided students with an opportunity to work independently and share their findings with the class. As a class we were able to review a greater number of muscles than we would have been able to do in the online game.

What if the internet had been down?  Well, my back up plan for the back up plan was to have students use books and diagrams that I had previously borrowed from the library. No matter how much tech you have in your classroom, it is still nice to crack open a book in the search for knowledge.
