Reflection: Writing Across the Disciplines Engineering Challenge - Saving Freddie - Section 3: Students in Action


Engineering is a separate class at our school. Students rotate through an introduction to engineering course as part of their special rotations. They participate in an engineer course for nine weeks each year.

Writing is a school wide learning outcome. Our goal is to improve the writing skills of all of our students across the curriculum.

I like to make writing purposeful and fun in the engineering classroom. Students had a great time saving Freddie, there was a lot of laughter in the classroom as they worked. Students commented that the writing was easy. I think it was easy because they were writing about something they enjoyed doing. Even during the writing process you could see student smiles as they recalled the steps needed to save Freddie.
