Reflection: High Expectations Gone Fishing - Section 3: Explore



Critical thinking is important because it encourages students to think more critically and creatively. In this investigation, students made predictions of when items magnets would attract or repel. However, there were some items that were partially attracted to the magnet. Students had to use critical thinking skills to figure out why some items were only partially attracted to the magnet such as the metal on the pencil. It was exciting to see the students think critically and figure out why the items only attracted  some items.

Big Idea: Students go "fishing" with a magnetic fishing pole to attract or repel items in a "pond".
