Reflection: Quizzes Quadratic Equations, Day 2 of 2 - Section 6: Quadratic Equations Quiz


Students took a practice quiz the day before the real one.  I gave them 15 minutes to work, and then we discussed the solutions.  Here is a sample of student work and here is another.

I've also included two samples of student work on the real quiz.  The first student forgot to consider both the positive and negative roots of a number, and the second student had trouble factoring (if only she had taken the time to check her work by multiplying the two factors together). In general, I found that the practice quiz helped the class a great deal.  Not only did it improve their confidence going into the quiz, but it helped to clear up some lingering misconceptions.

Big Idea: Knowledge of quadratic equations is an important prerequisite for studying complex numbers.
