Reflection: Student Led Inquiry DNA Extraction: DNA Structure and Function - Section 3: Explore

Being able to bring science to life is a one of the great challenges that life science teachers face. Most of the content covered in the curriculum addresses abstract concepts that are difficult to observe. What can be more abstract that DNA? A chemical known to be the giver of life but difficult to appreciate fully since its captive inside a cells nucleus.

It is through experiences such as DNA extraction that students are able to observe and actually seen DNA. The beauty of inquiry activities such as this is the questions that arise during and after activity. Students leave with excitement and a curiosity of how they can complete this activity and show their family.
