Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Explaining My Reasoning - Section 6: Evaluate


I saw three odd things in the student work. If I had known they might do these things I would have shown some example of what not to do. So, if I could do this lesson again I would show these example as what to not do. One student just wrote about her own thoughts (student work A), and another added the letter from the graphic organizer to his paragraph (student work B). The other strange thing I saw was that the student just transferred his work from the graphic organizer to the paper that I intended for the paragraph (student work C).

Big Idea: Provide students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of their own solution by allowing them to explain themselves in writing.
