Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding How Can Water Change the Shape of the Land? - Section 3: Explore

The children loved this simple investigation.  It was a great way for them to understand one of the common processes that happen on our Earth everyday--erosion.  They felt like they were actual scientists counting the drops and observing what happened.  They were immersed in the activity and were so excited to make the scientific discoveries on their own.  They took notes and drew diagrams which proved to be very effective. All of these educational practices has an effect, but the most influential part of the activity was the fact that they did a hands-on investigation in which they could visually see the sand moving when water was put on it.  This self-discovery was a key to success!
