Reflection: Adjustments to Practice How much have you learned? Unit Assessment - Section 2: During the exam


No matter how carefully planned and well-desiigned a test is, there is always room for improvement.

The re-assessing of my exam actually begins when my students are taking it.  The difficulties encountered, and the questions asked by students during the test, can be signals of where and how the test can be improved. I may see that a particular student had difficulty with a topic or question. This student may be a struggling student or an ELL. I think about what I could've done differently on the test and avoid the problem. 

I also detect how I could've improved the test while actually correcting it. If I see repeated mistakes or areas where students became confused and answered incorrectly. Once I have all the grades, I analyze improvement of individuals and of the whole class. If I have to meet with a student to discuss their work, I do. This is sometimes a great time to indicate areas of improvement and to improve overall student-teacher relations.
