Reflection: Intrinsic Motivation Day One of Where's Plaid Pete? - Section 3: Guided Exploration

I love using picture and trade books in Science - and my students love them too!  Choosing quality titles can be a daunting task.  This article from The Reading Teacher, although an older article, gives some great information about choosing appropriate titles.  An important reminder contained in the article, is choosing books wisely so that scientific misconceptions aren't perpetuated.

One of the resources suggested by the article, is the National Science Teacher's Association's list of Outstanding Science Trade Books.  Picture books can be used in the upper elementary classroom to increase both engagement and rigor.
