Reflection: Journaling Writing a Procedural Text of How Mountains are Made - Section 2: Engage!

What do erasers, lunch cards and glue sticks have in common?  They can all be used for models!

As the children were talking with their partner, I noticed something wonderful happening!  I saw students using extemporaneous models to help them explain mountain formation with their partner.  Children were modeling the tectonic plates using things like name tags, glue sticks, folders and erasers (see video clip) without any suggestion from me. I am thrilled that they took what they have learned about mountains and also what they have learned about modeling and combined the two to create a simple make-shift visual models to explain their ideas.  Yahoooo!
