Reflection: Student Self-Assessment Beginning the Capstone Project - Section 2: Engage

My students have an extra copy of the CER rubric in their binders and have access to an online version through our learning management system, yet they do not regularly view the rubric when crafting a CER.  Having the students assess their own CER using the rubric is a method that reminds them of the items that should be present in their CER.  This self-assessment also helps them critically evaluate the quality of the information that they include in their CER.  As students work on their rubric, they are able to ask me clarifying questions regarding the rubric too. With the CER format and other important concepts that we want to build in our students as a habit of learning, it is important  to set aside time to do it in classroom, often.
