Reflection: Joy Skeletal System - Structure and Function - Section 1: Engage

The purpose of this part of lesson is to foster a sense of curiosity, engagement, and joy of learning. The joy of students exploring bone structure is contagious.  This allows me to engage students through out lesson increasing student comprehension.

In addition to fostering a sense of excitement, this activity is a good entry point for all learners.   In my class with majority of EL learners I need to find unique ways to connect lesson content to their everyday lives.  It's a universal understanding that bones are hard and appear to be indestructible, these experiences come from eating chicken or playing catch with your dog.  As a result I make content accessible to all learners.  The discrepant event that they are to bend bones will foster a natural sense of inquiry which will drive the rest of the lesson.
