Reflection: Student Ownership The Planets of our Solar System - Section 2: Engage

In having the students sort the Solar System Cards by just looking at the pictures, it created a sense of novelty and curiosity for the students. Many of the partnerships decided together to sort the cards in certain ways as mentioned in the lesson narrative. The students were very comfortable making that decision and sharing why they decided to sort the cards a certain way. Other students needed to know what the "right" answer was and decided to use their resource book to help. I didn't discourage this since this was their way of sorting.

I like seeing that most students decided to sort the objects by size, shape, color, aesthetics, and one groups just had fun making the cards into certain pattern without thinking about the properties of the objects.
