Reflection: Writing Across the Disciplines Meiosis - Flipped - Section 3: Explore


I carefully structured this activity to help guide students through the process of reading for information and then responding to a prompt based on what they had read.  The first part of this activity, creating the Venn diagram, was intended to help students preview the information by examining the pictures on the website.  The second activity required them to perform a close read of the information and then determine if similarities or differences between mitosis and meiosis were presented.  The final task, writing the paragraph, required students to review and summarize the information they had written.

The students were also able to work on this activity with a partner.  This provided them with the opportunity to discuss their thoughts and ideas while reading.  It also required them to develop consensus when completing the graphic organizer.
