Reflection: Lesson Planning Planting for a Purpose - Section 3: Initial Observations and Seed Hypotheses


After this initial lesson I would have had follow up lessons. The lessons would have students observe and collect data on the way in which their plants were growing and what they noticed about their plants structures. However, we had a visitor after about three days of planting. A mouse got into the classroom and dug into every cup to eat the seeds. Instead of trying the experiment over, we will make plant structure observations outside as soon as it warms up.

Unit 7: Life Science
Lesson 4 of 14

Objective: SWBAT describe the structures of the plant as they grow from their own seed. They will connect this learning to information we discover about plant structures.

Big Idea: Planting is fun task, but in this lesson students will get to watch as the plant structures grow. They will then connect what they know about plant survival and growth to their observations.
