Reflection: Relevance Food Chain or Food Web? - Section 2: Engage


Anytime I can connect a lesson through literature, I do.  I find that it is a calming way to bring learning into the curriculum.  When lessons begin slowly and simply with language, it is highly engaging for children.  I also find that anytime I can connect a story to a learning concept, children remember it.  

For instance, when a mentor text is connected to a specific concept, the children are more likely to remember the concept when you trigger the memory of the story.
