Reflection: Adjustments to Practice Puzzle Piece Paragraph - Section 1: Review Previous Writing


After beginning my lesson this way today, I found that students were more hesitant to rate their writing. I decided that maybe if they got to read their pieces to a partner, it might help them decide on how well they liked what they wrote.

This went very well, but I had to monitor the feedback they were giving each other. Some students were a little too blunt and others did not know how to talk with their partner. It might be helpful to have a lesson on writing feedback before you ask them to work together on writing.

Puzzle Piece Paragraph

Unit 25: Beginning Paragraph Writing
Lesson 3 of 5

Objective: SWBAT write a rough draft that includes a topic sentence, details, and closing. They will construct their paragraph by manipulating their own writing like puzzle pieces.

Big Idea: By cutting apart their previously written topic, closing, and detailed setnteces. Students will be able to see, read, and hear why order of these is so important to good writing. Physically moving their writing into the correct order is a fun to show this.
