Reflection: Grade Book and Data Analysis Assessment day - Section 1: Summative Assessment


After grading the post tests, I am very disappointed in my students' results.  Anytime that happens, we as teachers, have to reflect on why students didn't make progress and then deal with the disappointment that while we planned and taught our hearts out, the students just didn't "get it" this time.  

For my kiddos, I think I didn't spend enough time on each actual text feature.  We didn't analyze an index- we just identified it.  The analysis I expected students to do on their own in the Become the Author lessons.  That didn't really happen then as I noted in that reflection so.... I know that throughout the rest of the year, we will have to keep revisiting nonfiction text features to bridge those gaps that still remain.
