I debated whether or not to show the videos and the pictures of the devastation caused by tornadoes, but I believe that in the end, this is what helped my students connect to the need for a viable design solution. This preparation on my part, helped the students connect to the content.

Objective: Create a model of a roof that can withstand a tornado simulation by designing and then testing the model.

Big Idea: By developing models, engineers improve existing technologies, or develop new ones to solve real world problems.
