Reflection: Lesson Planning Recreational Users and Dams - Section 2: Guided Practice

In the research packet I provide on this topic, I use articles which relate to our local region. When students read about the river near our house and recreational activities in which they participate, this activates prior knowledge and helps students to make personal connections with their learning. I often hear students exclaim things like, "My family and I go there!" or "I love to kayak!"

I found most locally relevant research articles by contacting our local dam administrators and asking for their help. They have been eager to provide grade appropriate materials which are focused on our local environment.
