Reflection: Heat Transfer in Architecture - Section 3: Explain

This investigation is not an easy one for students to design on their own. I am actually testing the same independent variable, time, and the same dependent variable, temperature. I use three different models for a couple of reasons. I only have one of each of the models and with the larger classes I would have to model it for all. I want the students to have a hands-on activity so I design it with three stations.

Students don't know how I necessarily have to design the investigation to make it easy for them to conduct and so I can get the data we need. I spend time explaining all three mini-investigations, in an attempt to help them understand that heat or temperature is what we measure.

Heat Transfer in Architecture

Unit 6: Designing for the Future: Eco Friendly Building
Lesson 5 of 10

Objective: SWBAT draw how heat transfers have an impact on home heating and cooling.

Big Idea: Why do eco-friendly products help homes? Students explore how homes are heated and what compromises the efficiency of energy transfer.
