Reflection: Rigor Preparing for the Rock Away Town Council Presentations - Section 3: Preparing the Information

I noticed when students presented in their erosion panels in a previous lesson, they struggled with organization. Also, they read most of their presentation, even though they knew their information if I asked them about it.

For this presentation I wanted the students to have a different experience.  I wanted them to be more focused on content and less on sequence. Also I wanted students to realize that they have a lot to share just by explaining the lab, sharing their experience, that it is not always necessary to script out the entire presentation, key words will work.

The presentation cards I created provide the topics and the organization. I intentionally did not provide much room on the cards so that students could not write out their entire speech. Students have cards to look at and hold while presenting, but now there is more opportunity for them to practice eye contact and to share authentically about their lab experience.
