Reflection: Point of View -Lesson 1 of Cinder Book One - Section 1: Warm Up


As with every language arts class independent reading is a very important part of my class.  My students are required to read independently and take Accelerated Reader tests to demonstrate the understanding.  Each student has an individual point goal and reading level goal set based on their Lexile level. We do not use the other bells and whistles of AR, but find it invaluable in managing student independent reading.  Students also take it very seriously as it is 20% of their overall language arts grade.

I choose to use book trailers to support students in making good book choices as they provide a great "advertisement" for my students. I am very picky about the trailers I choose.  I want something akin to a great movie trailer not a poorly made summary of the book. Indications from my classroom library and the school library show that this works.  Books I show are check out within the day and end up with a waiting list.
