Reflection: Perseverance Goody Goody Gumdrop! Building Structures are Fun! - Section 4: Testing Our Gumdrop Structures

In the midst of this investigation, something wonderful happened...the perfect teaching moment. Every partner group was able to create a structure that held at least one book, all except one team of girls.  After their structure failed the book test, I had the perfect opportunity to revisit an important idea.  Here's the conversation that I had with the girls:

We have learned before that engineers don't come up the perfect solution the first time they try.  Engineers learn from their trials and then use what they have learned to create an even better design. Do you girls think that you can improve your structure?  What is something you think you could do to make it even better?

The girls worked feverishly to improve their structure.  Check out this video clip to see what happened!  Their improvements were definitely validated!  Persevering through tasks can be its own reward!
