Reflection: Trust and Respect First Week of School, Day 4 - Section 2: Whole Class Activity

This activity is a great opportunity to learn more about your students' personalities.  Many students will be eager to be the "teacher" and will love being in front of the class in "control".  Some students will be very quiet throughout the activity, worried of doing/saying the wrong thing.

During this activity, I make some mental notes of students' personalities.  In the first few weeks of school, these observations help me with grouping, if I'm not grouping by math level. I try not to have a whole group of outgoing students, because I've found that they have a difficult time working and listening to one another.  On the other hand, I try not to have a group entirely of shy students, because there is very little discussion.
