Reflection: ELL Students You Have Alot of Nerves - An Introduction to the Nervous System - Section 1: Engage

The use of a visual thinking strategy is designed to build students' background knowledge and develop thinking skills that use detail to enhance understanding.  This particularly works well in engaging EL learners since they are required to describe in their own words what they're thinking.  By giving students a simple command such as "curl your toes" and then have them draw or explain how they were able to conduct this command is something that all learners are able to complete.  This also allowed me to identify any misconceptions as well as assessing their background knowledge on how input/output messages are sent in nervous system.
