Reflection: Routines and Procedures The Water Cycle - Section 2: Student-Conducted Lab

To facilitate effective group work throughout this unit, I use a student job chart. I mark student journals with a colored sticker and ensure that each group has one person with a red, orange, yellow, green, and blue sticker. Each day, I post student jobs on the whiteboard. After the day's rotation, I move the jobs down on the chart. Throughout the unit, each student gets the chance to do every job. This clear, simple method helps students to understand what is expected of them and ensures that students groups stay on task and complete all assigned laboratory work. I have found that this also helps reduce inter-personal conflicts that might interfere with student work.
