Reflection: Relevance Mitochondria "The Powerhouse of the Cell" - Section 4: Elaborate

As a life science teacher it can at times be a challenge to make content relevant to students lives. In an age where all questions can be answered by "Googling it", it is my mission to make my content relevant to my students everyday experiences.  My ability to design lessons that will effortlessly draw my students in, I believe is one of my best educator tools.  In this particular lesson I was able to show students how essential mitochondria and as a result cellular respiration are to our daily lives.  After watching these videos my students were immediately engaged in lesson and wanted to know more about the science behind staple foods and drinks such as bread, wine, and cheese.  I will continue to connect my students interests to my lessons because of the great benefits that both my students and I have received from it.
