I had six students that struggled making sense of words during the partner practice time. I met with them in a strategy group. I modeled the strategy again using the same approach of covering words with stickies and taking a guess of what might fit and deciding if it sounded right. 

Then we took turns practicing for each other. The video below is one of the students practicing the strategy again.

Objective: SWBAT to use the look at the whole word strategy to help make a smart guess at the word to figure out the unknown word.

Big Idea: Learning and reading new words should be fun. Students can see how much fun it is to slow down and figure out big words using two easy strategies together.
