Reflection: Intervention and Extension Light It Up - Section 2: Here You Go...


Even with the demonstration, some are not sure about how to proceed. More times than not, I find that once the demonstration has occurred, there are always a few students that become less likely to take the risk of being wrong. When these students go back to their groups they do not want to be wrong and will often wait for me to get to them before proceeding. When I do get there, I ask them to show me and explain what they are thinking. By being there and not stepping in they are likely to do the work, they just want support while taking the risk. Many times teachers step in too soon and this causes the students to just wait and watch rather than explore for themselves.

Big Idea: In this lesson, students are given the materials, taught what a circuit is, and then are left to discover how to create the working circuit.
