Reflection: Modeling Getting Into the Fossil Record - Section 3: Students in Action

The scavenger hunt questions are designed to insure that students are not just clicking through the pages of the website. They require students to pause and evaluate the text and images presented as they advance through the website.

Some textbooks have made looking for answers too easy for students. They have been trained to look for the bold-faced or highlighted text for answers. This website requires students to read through all the text and take a critical look at all the images in order to answer the questions.

We are a one-to-one computer school and have eliminated most of our hard-copy textbooks so modeling close reading for information on websites is a critical step to student success.
