Reflection: Trust and Respect Design a Cyborg Eye - Part 2 - Section 3: Presentations

It is so important for students in the audience to recognize how critical their role is for the success of the groups presenting.  Whenever we are conducting presentations, I remind students of my expectations for "audience members" which is any combination of the following depending on the presentation:

  • Write down things you like about the product and/or presentation
  • Jot down questions you have/things that you wonder
  • Write suggestions for improvement (we call them "quality boosters")
  • What are ideas you can "steal" for your own future presentations

For this assignment I had students write questions to ask the group during the Q and A session immediately following the presentation, which I would definitely suggest including even though this takes more time. It is during this time that the amount of information that students learned and the amount of thought and planning students put into their designs becomes apparent.  This is when they start speaking with the confidence and knowledge I would like to see during the entire presentation.
