Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Table of Contents, Glossaries, and Indexes - Section 1: Location Cues


Students were able to recall the name of text features easily.  Connecting a text feature to its purpose and also using a chart with visual cues facilitate retention of information regarding text features.  After applying text feature to a lesson, such as finding a solution to specific problem of locating a story using Table of Contents, students clearly understood the purpose of each text feature presented, as evidenced by student interviews (see resource).
