Reflection: Student Ownership Design a Cyborg Eye - Part 2 - Section 1: Warm-Up


By having students analyze a presentation that is similar to the one they will be giving they end up creating an "accidental" list of things they should/should not do during their own presentation (at least it is accidental to them!).  No matter how many times I tell them they need to sound excited by their creation or support their claims with evidence it often falls on deaf ears.  However, when you can show them their own words suggesting to someone else that they need better support for their claims or they should be more innovative or speak with more passion, that is harder for them to ignore.  Here is a chart of the most common responses from my students on the Shark Tank analysis.

Objective: SWBAT gather and synthesize information that sensory receptors respond to stimuli by sending messages to the brain for immediate behavior or storage as memories.

Big Idea: Students try on their business hats in the Shark Tank as they pitch "investors"!
