Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding A Solution Based on Mimicking Plants - Section 4: Explain


I am finding that the more engaged the students are in the table talk the better they are at explaining their solution in the evaluation section: presentation and evaluation. So, I think it is very important to developing the ability to explain their reasoning, defend their solution, and really develop a quality solution. The biggest challenge is the get the students talking. Once I use my questions to engage everyone they become active learners. I can then see who understands, who doesn't, and provide explanations where students are confused. When the students are confused I usually reference the exact document they research, because it helps them learn to focus on their text as evidence.
