## Reflection: Real World Applications Dividing Mixed Numbers Algorithm - Section 1: Do Now

I decided to have the Do Now problem on the board before the selected group acted it out.  I had students discuss, but not complete the problem.  As I walked around assessing students comprehension, I noticed that there were several debates over whether the problem was 4 ÷ 1/4 or 1/4  ÷  4.  After a few minutes, the group presented their "skit".  Then students discussed the problem again and worked on the solution.

The second time groups discussed the problem there was much less debate.  The skit clarified that they needed to divide/split the amount of peanuts and not the amount of people.  It also reinforced students' understanding that it was a division and not a multiplication problem.
